Why the RDA is so much lower

Common mistakes

Using a round number instead of your weight

100 g a day is generous for a 60 kg person and well short for a 95 kg person in a deficit. Always calculate from body weight.

Counting the whole food, not the protein

A 200 g steak is not 200 g of protein — it is roughly 50 g. Track the protein column, not the portion size.

Back-loading everything to dinner

Reaching 150 g gets very hard when 120 of it has to arrive after 7 pm. Front-load breakfast and the rest falls into place.

Ignoring protein quality

Plant sources are effective but generally lower in leucine and less complete, so plant-based eaters do well to aim at the upper end of the range and vary sources.

Cutting fat and carbs to make room
